How to Add a Logo to a QR Code Without Breaking It
A logo makes a QR code look branded and trustworthy, but it covers part of the pattern. Done right, it still scans perfectly.
Why a logo can work
QR codes include built-in error correction, so they can be read even when part of the pattern is hidden. Higher levels recover more damage: L about 7%, M about 15%, Q about 25% and H about 30%.
Steps
- Open the generator and enter your content.
- Set error correction to H before you add the logo.
- Upload your logo. A square image with a transparent or white background works best.
- Keep the logo small, about a fifth of the code width or less.
- Download the result and test it before you use it.
Design tips
- Use a simple logo. Fine detail turns into a blur at small sizes.
- Keep strong contrast between the code and its background.
- Do not let the logo cover the three large corner squares.
- Shorter content gives you more room, because the pattern is less dense.
Test properly
Scan the final file with at least two phones, from the distance people will really use. If any phone struggles, make the logo smaller.
