How to Make a Wi-Fi QR Code (and Share It Safely)
A Wi-Fi QR code lets guests join your network by scanning, with no typing. Both iPhone and Android cameras support it.
How to create one
- Open the generator and choose the Wi-Fi type.
- Enter your network name (SSID) exactly as it appears, including capital letters.
- Enter the password and choose the security type (usually WPA/WPA2).
- If your network is hidden, tick the hidden network option.
- Download the code and test it with a phone that is not yet connected.
Safety tips
- The password is stored in the code itself. Anyone who can scan it can read the password, so only display it where you are happy for people to connect.
- Use your guest network, not your main one, for printed codes.
- If you change the Wi-Fi password, the old code stops working. Print a new one.
Troubleshooting
- Phone does not offer to join: check the network name and security type; a wrong type is the most common cause.
- Special characters: passwords with symbols are supported, but test the code to be sure.
- Older phones: some need a scanner app that supports Wi-Fi codes.
